ORTHODONTICS (CLIPS/ BRACES)
It is concerned with correction of teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly. Crooked teeth and teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean, are at risk of being lost early due to tooth decay and periodontal disease, and cause extra stress on the chewing muscles that can lead to headaches, TMJ syndrome and neck, shoulder and back pain.
There is no age limits for orthodontic treatments. Beautiful, straight teeth are possible for everyone. Mal-alignments can be perfectly corrected also in adulthood. An increasing number of adults trust in orthodontic treatments because of aesthetical and preventive reasons.
Treatment of the Primary Dentition
It is of interest to check the dentition of your child at early age. Some dental treatments, as well as orthodontics, might be indicated as early as 3-4 years of age. Mal-alignments of teeth lack of space for permanent teeth and a beginning malformation of the jawbones can often be diagnosed early and treatment can be initiated. Use of my functional appliances and simple orthodontic methods can avoid early on, more severe consequences in an older age of your child.
An early loss of a primary tooth often leads to a later lack of space for the permanent tooth. The simple use of a space maintainer can keep the tooth gap open for the permanent tooth. In this way we can intervene early on, in an efficient way.
Treatment in Permanent Teeth
Once all the permanent teeth have come through, the main growth of the jaw has generally come to an end. Growth correction possibilities are very limited at this point of time. The main focus lies on the correction of tooth mal-alignments. In this case the brackets are cemented onto the teeth by means of special glue and connected with thermo-elastic wires. The restoring force of the special arches is transferred to the teeth via the bracket and leads to reconstruction processes in the bone, which makes tooth movement possible and corrects the mal-occlusion.
Lingual Braces
Custom-made fixed braces bonded to the back of the teeth making them invisible to other people while in standard braces the brackets are cemented onto the front side of the teeth. Hence, lingual braces are a cosmetic alternative to those who do not wish the braces to be visible.
Clear Aligners
Are removable medical grade plastic appliances which patient wears instead of brackets and wires, to correct mal-occlusion.Dental aligners are a modern alternative to braces, for teeth that are in need of straightening.
A clear change to the concept of Cosmetic and Adult Orthodontic treatment without using conventional methods of wires and brackets. Adults wouldn't have asked for a better choice to correct their malocclusion without social inhibitions. You can remove Clear aligners to eat, drink, brush and floss or for special occasions.
The duration of treatment takes approximately 12 to 18 months.
